about the categories and tags     2008-05-11

This archive is organized by a combination of categories and tags. A lot of categories. And a lot of tags!

Each post is marked with an author, reader, and fandom. There may or may not also be a series, or other pertinent information.

The categories denote fandom and pairing. Here’s how they work:

Fandom
The fandom categories start general, with the source material. The inspirational material? The fandom, anyway. RPS is listed separately, rather than as a subheading. But not just as RPS - different RPS fandoms, different listings. Six degrees fandoms are listed out separately as well. Crossovers list all fandoms. So far I don’t have a general crossover category, as I’m not convinced it would be useful. But I’m still thinking about it.
Pairing information, where pertinent, is given as a subcategory of each fandom. The exception to this is gen - from an organizational point of view I am not happy with this, but folding all of the gen categories together is necessary for the time being. Hopefully this is a temporary measure.

There are also a few tags in use. Here’s how the tags work:

Author
I am listing authors by the name they most often give, or the name they have stipulated. If you are an author represented here, and you would like your pen name listed differently, let me know.
When stories are co-written, I am marking the entry with all of the authors.

Reader
Pretty much everything I said under author also applies to reader.

File type tags
Everything here is available as an mp3, but several of the stories have also been converted into m4b audiobooks, with cover art. m4b files can be opened with iTunes, and (reportedly) also with WinAmp. A few files are also available as m4a. A couple of wav and ogg files have wandered in as well.

Info
Anthologies, works-in-progress, filks.
There are a couple of podfic collections here. Sometimes the individual tracks are available separately, sometimes they aren’t - that’s up to the creators. Works-in-progress also get a category - most of these are updated pretty regularly. I put the individual parts in those posts, but once they are finished, the parts will be compiled into one big zip file. There are even a couple of filks! They aren’t the only sung fic in the archive, but they are the only ones that fit the filk definition. The other sung fic doesn’t have a category yet, mainly as I don’t know what I would call it. Sorry.

Series
This one’s organized by name of the individual series. I’m defining series pretty loosely, sometimes - related stories in the same universe qualify. So does a single story and its sequel.

So that’s what I’ve got. I am working on a length/time tag, but it will be a while before I can implement it. In the meantime, I’ve indicated the time for the recording on the entries, where I have it. If you have concerns about rating or content, I suggest you follow the text link to the story first and take a look.

I am open to suggestions, if you see possible improvements.
